My Story:

I was a 47-year-old woman, who had just been handed her divorce papers, with 30 pounds to lose, no energy and no self-esteem. I knew, I had to turn my life around. My Mom suggested I make an appointment with Colleen Phillips and take control of my life. It was a chance to start over and I knew I needed a fresh start.

At the time of the divorce, I was carrying 157 pounds on my 5' 6" body. Back in High School, I was a cheerleader and loved gymnastics. How did I get so out of touch with my body? How did I let myself get so fat? I tried to get into shape off and on, mostly to get my husband's attention and approval. I'd see a perfect body running on the beach and think, "If I only looked like her, he'd love me." But nothing ever worked. My weight was like a YO-YO, up and down.

After the first six months going to Diet Doctors I felt my life was back on track. I learned how to follow a sensible eating plan, and started a regular workout program. I had lost 26 lbs of pure fat and gained 6 lbs of pure muscle. I had gone from 27% to 18% body fat, and had dropped three dress sizes. Before, I had struggled into size 11/12 - now I could slip into a size 5/6. I hardly recognized the person I had now become. After I achieved my goals I continued to go to Diet Doctors once a month for maintenance.I have been going ever since. It has been over ten years now, and I am happy to say I still weigh 136 lbs and still maintain my exercise program. Checking in once a month helps me to be accountable and stay with the healthy program I was taught. It is now a way of life.

Within months of my transformation, I became a BFL Champion and best of all, met my wonderful new husband. Our shared passion for the outdoors even inspired a thriving business venture. We just recently celebrated our 10-year Anniversary. At long last, I am happy with the way I look and feel, both inside and out.

My experience with Diet Doctors and their staff:

Dr. Colleen Phillips and her staff helped me transform myself into a woman looking ten years younger and always full of energy. The staff are always friendly, supportive, positive and encouraging! I knew when I came to the office that I would find people who really cared about me.

There are several Board Certified Physicians at Diet Doctors, who are very caring as well as knowledgeable. After taking your medical history and listening to your heart and lungs, they prescribe what diet medication they feel will work best for you.

I'm still going strong after all these years, thanks to Dr. Phillips' wonderful help and advice; and thanks to her wonderful staff, who always make me feel so good every time I come back for a visit to maintain the new me, forever!

What motivated me to lose weight?

My life was out of control - the only thing I could control was how I took care of me! I had no energy and was depressed every time I looked in the mirror.

What were/are my biggest challenges?

Changing bad eating habits and get my addiction to sugar under control. Motivating myself to get off the couch and go work out!

Special tip(s) I would like to share:

Plan to succeed!! The most important tips I could offer to help succeed are: Plan your foods ahead one week at a time. Write a plan for meals each day and stick to your plan. Keep a journal of what you actually eat every day. It makes you accountable.

Same thing for working out: Write out a workout plan for each week. Keep a "success" journal of your workouts. Stick to your plan and you will see improvement each week.
